Workaholics

"An Inbox-full of comic sketches and monologues about life at the office."

Latest News

Ignorant and demanding bosses, harried employees, tiny cubicles, and the evils of PowerPoint. David Raitt stars in a fast-paced and hilarious evening of sketches and monologues saluting the organized chaos that is office work. Unchain yourself from your desk and bring a friend. Better yet, bring a co-worker!

CONTENT ADVISORY: Some scenes contain mature subject matter and coarse language.

FROM THE PRESS RELEASE:

Workaholics finds comedy fodder in a wide array of common office situations, such as the "nightmare boss," work stress, boredom, computer problems, telephone calls, and competition for promotion.

"I worked as a technical support analyst to put myself through school," Raitt says. "I had a lot of experience to draw from."

"Offices are the best places in the world to observe social interaction. You've got all these people, different personalities, different styles, forced to come together to work. They're crammed into cubicles, they're stressed, they've got technology to deal with. It's a goldmine for comedy."

Raitt attributes the success of the show's first run to accessibility. "If you've ever worked a day in your life, in an office or not, you can identify with the stuff in this show. Everybody has heard stories about the nightmare boss."

"Shows like The Office have become very popular because they're about the kind of stuff people deal with in their own lives - taken to extremes, of course. But given how much time we all put into working, it's very interesting to me how so much of the TV and film we watch seems to go out of its way to show people at work."

Although Raitt is the star of Workaholics, he's very happy to have the assistance of fellow Second City TourCo alumni Christy Bruce, Tabetha Wells, and Mike "Nug" Nahrgang, who are featured in the show and contributed some scenes of their own. "I realized early on that I couldn't do a one-man show about offices," Raitt says. "They're people places."

Raitt's Second City connections help with the technical aspects of the show as well: Mainstage alumnus Paul Bates directs, with music and sound by TourCo music director Jim Clayton.
